Chadalavada Umesh Chandra

Chadalavada Umesh Chandra, an exemplary officer, dedicated his life to serving the nation and its people. His commitment to justice and community welfare is the foundation of this initiative. We aim to honor his memory by fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility among citizens, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.

He began his IPS training in Warangal district, an area heavily affected by Naxalite insurgency. Even as a trainee officer, he actively participated in operations against extremist groups and quickly gained the respect of both his colleagues and the public.

Let's talk with me.

After his training he continued in Warangal as Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rural), where he launched the “Jana Jaagruti” public awareness initiative—an innovative program using cultural outreach and community engagement to strengthen cooperation between citizens and the police.

As ASP in Pulivendula (Cuddapah district), he acted decisively against factional violence, criminal gangs, and illegal gambling networks, restoring law and order and helping ensure peaceful elections in an area long affected by conflict. He later returned to Warangal as Officer on Special Duty, continuing anti-extremist operations while strengthening trust between the police and the community.

Promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) of Cuddapah, Umesh Chandra revitalized the police force, expanded the Jana Jaagruti initiative, and significantly reduced factional violence and illegal weapons in the district. His leadership improved public safety and restored confidence in law enforcement, earning him widespread admiration and the nickname “Cuddapah Tiger.”

During his tenure as SP of Karimnagar, another district affected by extremist activity, he intensified operations against insurgent groups, shut down fraudulent chit fund schemes exploiting citizens, and maintained strict professional standards within the police force.

Later appointed Assistant Inspector General (AIG) for Sports and Welfare, he established a modern computer center and helped develop election management software, demonstrating his commitment to modernization within the police service.

On September 4, 1999, Umesh Chandra was assassinated by Naxalite extremists in Hyderabad while serving the nation. His death shocked the state and the country, and he was widely mourned by colleagues, public officials, and ordinary citizens whose lives he had touched through his service.

Umesh Chandra is remembered not only as a courageous police officer but also as a compassionate leader who believed in justice, service, and the welfare of the people. His dedication to duty, integrity in public service, and fearless stand against violence continue to inspire generations of police officers and citizens alike. His legacy lives on through initiatives inspired by his vision of public awareness, responsible policing, and community partnership.
